Is the plantar fascia the cause of your foot pain?

A common complaint I see as a chiropractor in Plantation, Fl is foot pain.  Being a runner myself, I relate to patients who come in with lower extremity pain.  The problem with foot pain is that it does not only affect runners; everyone who has legs and feet can suffer from this discomfort.

Recently, I had a patient who mentioned experiencing foot pain. Specifically, he was having heel pain that troubled him the past few weeks.  As I started to examine his foot, I explained that it could be one of two things – a heel spur or plantar fasciitis.  Plantar fasciitis occurs in about 10% of runners and 50% of patients may also have a calcaneal spur.

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common conditions causing foot pain.  Symptoms include sharp heel pain that travels along the bottom of the foot.  It is also more painful in the morning when just getting out of bed.  Plantar fasciitis can be associated with dropped medial arches, or flatfoot gait. Impact through the foot causing the arch to stretch and contract can lead to increased pain on the bottom of the foot.

As I examined my patient with, we assessed for pain directly in the heel or through the tissue itself.  As we felt along the arch of the foot, which includes tendons for the toe, his pain increased.  We knew then we were dealing with plantar fasciitis.

Research shows that more than 80% of people with plantar fasciitis improve within 12 months regardless of care.  But for those in Plantation, Fl looking to recover quickly, Stumpff Chiropractic can provide treatment.  Modalities such as kinesiotape, ultrasound and myofascial release can be helpful.
